Hexagonal Gift Box: A Festive Handmade Gift Idea

I’m delighted to share this resized Hexagonal Gift Box project with you. I recently made one of these boxes and loved it so much that I decided to resize the design and write up the instructions.

🎄 A Festive Hexagonal Gift Box

For this project, I used the gorgeous 12″ x 12″ “A Stitched Season” Christmas Designer Series Paper, along with Real Red and Basic White Cardstock and some pretty white ribbon.

These little boxes are perfect for so many occasions. They would make lovely:

🎁 Small handmade gifts
🎄 Christmas stocking fillers
💌 Care packages
🍎 Teacher gifts
🛍️ Craft fair items
✨ Party favours and table gifts

The finished box is a lovely way to package a few small treats or special goodies while adding a handmade touch.

✂️ Template & Scoring Guide

I’ve included the measurements and step-by-step instructions below so you can make your own Hexagonal Gift Box.

Box

Start with a piece of Designer Series Paper or Cardstock measuring:

11″ x 5-1/2″

Score the long side at:

1-3/4″
3-1/2″
5-1/4″
7″
8-3/4″
10-1/2″

Score the short side at:

1-3/4″
3-1/2″

Once all your scoring is complete, fold and gently burnish all of the score lines.

With the smallest sections (your glue tabs) positioned on the right-hand side, cut away the small rectangle at the bottom.

Next, cut up each of the glue tabs.

Creating the Hexagonal Shape

Using a pencil, mark a small dot at the top of each of the six panels, 7/8″ in from the top edge.

Score from each bottom corner up to the marked centre point on all six panels.

Fold and gently burnish these diagonal score lines. Take care not to crease them too heavily—you want the folds to move easily when the box is assembled.

Using a hole punch, punch 12 holes in the smaller triangular sections, following the template diagram.

Tip: If you find it easier, you can wait and punch the holes after the box has been assembled.

🎀 Decorative Layers

To decorate the six middle panels, you’ll need:

6 Real Red Cardstock mats, measuring 1-5/8″ x 1-5/8″
6 DSP mats, measuring 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″

I used the lovely block patterns from the Designer Series Paper pack and cut them down to size.

For the sentiment label, cut:

1 piece of cardstock: 3″ x 7/8″
1 piece of Basic White Cardstock: 2-3/4″ x 3/4″

The white layer gives you a perfect little space for stamping your sentiment.

🧵 Assembly

Now it’s time to put your Hexagonal Gift Box together!

Once your box is assembled, feed the ribbon through the punched holes. When you pull the ribbon taut, it will neatly gather and close the top of the box.

Before tying your ribbon into a pretty bow, remember to:

Punch a hole in your sentiment label.
Thread the label onto the ribbon.
Add your treats, goodies or gift to the box.
Pull the ribbon tight and secure it with a bow.

And that’s it—you have a gorgeous handmade Hexagonal Gift Box ready to give!
