Online tutorial – learn how to make your own handmade christmas crackers, what a fabulous yet easy project.
Hello and welcome to Christmas Series Project number 23! yes 23 already, oh boy time is sure going in fast.
So in preparation for my Christmas Table Decor Workshop taking place in November (details to follow) I decided to have a practice at making at least the cracker part of the workshop. Now whilst I did use my now retired Envelope Punch Board – you can easily adapt to cut the areas by hand if you do not have this tool.
There are many many tutorials out there but my tutorial was inspired by a lady who goes by the name of MayMay over on youtube. You can find the original tutorial here
The products I used were an A4 sheet of shaded spruce and one 6×6 sheet of wrapped in plaid DSP as well as two lengths of real red ribbon.
Instructions and Measurements:
- Cut your cardstock down to 8 x 6 1/2″
- Score (with longest side at top of scoreboard) at: 1 1/4″ 1 3/4″ 2 1/4″ FLIP OVER and score same again on opposite side.
- Now with the 6 1/2″ length at the top score at: 1 1/4″ 2 1/2″ 3 3/4″ 5″ 6 1/4″
(this leaves a 1/4″ section at the end for adhering together later) - Fold and burnish all score lines
- Now place your cardstock with the 1/4″ score line at the bottom and fold over the first fold and punch with your EPB at 1 3/4″, open up and fold over at the second line and do the same again – you do this four times in total. Flip over and do the same to the other side.
- Adhere your layers to your cracker as you wish – I added five layers which measured 1″ x 3 1/4″
- Glue together using tear and tape on that 1/4″ area and burnish it down well.
- We can now punch those last two areas which may feel a little tight to put under the punch area on your board but if you burnish well, it’ll fit fine.
- Place in between your two palms and gently manipulate to its natural shape.
- Tie one end with co-ordinating ribbon, and add your contents before tying the other end. Be sure to make sure both your ribbons are tied facing the same way as each other.
- Add a layered sentiment section or tag of your liking as well as any flourishes or punched shapes, embellishments etc.
