3D Floral Butterfly Photo frame Home Decor – Easy Make

So today I wasn’t really in the mood for making cards, and it being Monday, I needed something a little different to occupy my crafty mind! I have made this gorgeous 3d photo frame using quilled flowers and wooden butterfly elements (free sale-a-bration item!).

photocollage_20192181931715.jpg

It looks so professional you could sell these no problem at local craft fayres – or to give as gifts.  This project I added a “friend” sentiment from the needle and nook stamp set which is featured within the Spring/Summer Occasions Catalogue (link below).

photocollage_201921819420901

Because greys, yellows and whites are so popular within the Home Decor trend just now, I opted for Basic Grey, Mango Melody and Whisper White for the flowers and stamped using the basic grey Stampin’ Ink!

These quilled flowers were made using non-branded dies that I had lying around in my huge collection – the colours look absolutely gorgeous together and compliment each other fantastically!

Here’s a closer look at the floral and butterfly elements…..

Home Decor & Upcycling, Photoframes and 3D Frames, Wedding

Create a gorgeous upcycled wedding / engagement gift 3D photo frame

I am soooooo in love with this cute alternate frame I created.

I was gifted four of these frames from my Mother-in-Law Helen as she knew they wouldn’t go to waste once I got my crafty little hands on them.

Materials:

  • 4×6″ photoframe(s)
  • Sara Davies Signature Rustic Cottage Metal Dies-Aged Rose (Rustic Cottage Collection)
  • Deep pink card stock
  • White Ink (Dovecraft Premium Essentials)
  • Medium sized Ivory paper rose heads
  • Small White paper rose heads
  • Pink Rose flat-back resin embellishments
  • Pastel coloured satin rose bud heads
  • Metal Charm embellishments (Queen Crowns x2 and a Love Sentiment)Tools:
  • Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
  • Hot Glue Gun

Mrs and Mrs Upcycled Frame #weddinggift #samesexmarriage #MrandMr
Wow – I’m so in love with this 🙂

Step 1: Die cut (or hand cut – use Google for a free printable template) circular florals and bone fold to shape petals.

Step 2: Roll up or quill into flower shape. (I inked the petal edges to give a less white look.)

Step 3: Glue together firmly and add floral centre embellishment as desired (pearl, button, satin rose, etc.)

Repeat until you have enough for your project.

Step 4: Securely glue embellishments to your frame mixing up with other items as you see here. These were premade and purchased from eBay (paper roses and plastic flat back resin roses).

Remember to cut off the metal wire prior to fixing.

Step 5:

Secure chosen charms to your frame also. Have a play around to see where best to fit them.

I chose two queens crowns and the word love. This is an ideal present for a same sex couple 🙂

Mrs and Mrs Upcycled Frame #weddinggift #samesexmarriage #MrandMr
Isn’t this just beautiful?

Step 6: Take a photograph of your creation!

Mrs and Mrs Upcycled Frame #weddinggift #samesexmarriage #MrandMr

Tip: Ensure there are no strings of glue left behind from your glue gun (as you can see I forgot to tidy my glue up before I took the photograph!).

Alternate Suggestion: Instead of getting rid of old frames, give them a new lease of life by upcycling as in this tutorial, or by giving it a lick of chalk paint to match your decor. Either way you will end up with a gorgeous looking one-off frame that no-one else has! Each upcycled frame is unique to you / the recipient.

Here is a different style that I also created (this frame’s glass was missing so I decided to make something for me).

I hope this has inspired you to try this at home and begin your upcycling crafty journey!

Home Decor & Upcycling

I gave our computer chairs a new lease of life…

I re-covered old computer chairs giving them a fresh new lease of life.  Although this took a bit of a fiddle and with my bad hands, mission was accomplished nonetheless.

The new material simply goes over the current padding and is tucked in under the plastic backing that is on both the seat pad and the back rest.  The stretchy cream material works better, rather than the cotton as there is not as much movement in the fabric when in use.

You cannot see the spray paint damage on the high back chair, nor the water stain damage on the low back chair now – two fewer pieces of furniture saved from the landfill!  Even the purchase these chairs at around £5-£10 each second-hand, we’ve saved £10 – £20 by up-cycling! #lesslandfill #lesswaste

The black material cost me a few bucks and the cream material I was gifted by a kind lady.

IMG_20180806_200505.jpg

I hope this inspires you to try and up-cycle more, saving you pennies and making a contribution to #lesslandfill.

Home Decor & Upcycling

Home Decor on a budget :)

So….. After having the dining room decorated earlier in the year I decided to make some co-ordinating home decor items. Let me explain what each item is and how it was made on a budget 🙂

Canvas Picture

This picture was made using the leftover wallpaper that was used to decorate our feature wall in the dining room. I upcycled an old canvas that no longer matched the decor in our house.

Framed Fabric Remnant

Here I used a budget boxed picture frame (£1.99 from Home Bargains) and inserted a fabric remnant that co-ordinated with the wallpaper.

Upcycled Cushion

An old fur heart cushion was given a new lease of life and looks great on my dog’s sofa (yes she has her own leather chair!). The fabric was purchased from Dunelm Mill and cost £3.99.

Fabric Covered Canvas

I managed to make one last co-ordinating piece by covering a smaller canvas with the remaining fabric. Cost of canvas was £1 from Pound World.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have found some inspiration.
